Behind the Veil is inspired by the inner world of women: by the continues duels between a sense of duty for the majority imposed by political, religious and cultural statements, in contraposition to individual necessities, desires and instincts.
It develops between a concrete and an abstract world, from dream to reality, where the connotations past, present and future dissolve, leaving images, dynamics and symbols that stimulate our memories, profound emotions and ideas, aiming to help liberating the Self from its own state of slavery.
The veil is an object that characterizes different cultures and religions and is also part of the clothing used for various rituals. There is a wide variety of veil styles, both for women and men, but especially for women; it often indicates the beginning of an end. The end of freedom and spontaneity. Many of the women wearing the veil daily won't agree with this statement because their culture is based on very straight rules and dogmas, which integrate the veil as an important element. But after interviewing many of them - especially older women - this is what I learned about their condition. Behind the Veil; the Last Flight explores this reality through movement, sound, and the use of one of the most invasive veils, called Niqāb, in the Islamic religion.
